Home2019 Toms River Tune Up Report

Toms River Tune Up Regatta:

Saturday, June 1st, 2019

The first 2019 E Scow regatta in the Barnegat Bay area was greeted with light and shifty conditions. Being so early in the season there were only 7 boats racing for the day. The races were held on the Wanamaker course about 2 miles west of the Toms River Yacht Club.

With the shifty and light winds, the RC did a great job getting 4 races in tough conditions. With such a small fleet all of the competitors were always within 8-15 boat lengths of each other. With tight racing, it was exciting to watch and sail in the event. With the light and shifty conditions, it was challenging, but everyone was happy to get back in the E Scow for the start of the season. With no drops, every point counted, and by the last race it came down to who beat who.

No one was quite sure who won the day, as racing was so tight. However, T-73 Limelight Skipper Jeff Bonanni came out on top winning the tiebreaker with SS-37 Blind Squirrel John Brown. First and second place both tied with 11 points. Third and Fourth also tied with 12 points, winning the tiebreaker was T-53 Fox Skipper Brian Gabriel.

It was a great regatta to start the season on the Barnegat Bay in New Jersey.
