New E Scow Production
Published on 8/20/2025
Greetings E Scow fans,
The NCESA has been receiving inquiries regarding the status of new E Scow production.
The following message was prepared in collaboration with Melges and is intended to cover
some basics. As a reminder, the NCESA and its membership preside over the class
constitution, by-laws, and scantlings. Boats are constructed by class approved builders. The
sole class approved builder is Melges Boat Works.
What is the status of New E Scow Production?
From 2001 to 2020 an average of 12 boats per year were constructed. Since 2020 the
average has dropped to just 4.5 new boats per year. In addition to confirmed orders,
Melges had a "stock" boat in inventory which sold in September 2024 representing
all open orders being fulfilled in fall 2024. Production has been temporarily paused,
however the molds are in great shape and ready to go.
The E Scow has excellent build quality and is more durable than ever before. Used
boats are holding their value and are highly competitive. The NCESA is hearing
excitement and demand for new boats. Don't wait. Reach out to Melges NOW so they
can make plans to resume production and continue to deliver the boats we all love.
