Wawasee club members gave everyone a great reception on their arrival - what a treat to come to a club like this. Friday saw several boats arrive late in the night, but they stayed up at the club and welcomed each one and lead them to their hosts house for the weekend. Seems like everyone who traveled is staying with a Wawasee club member.

DAY-1

The first day was calm until about 11:30 when the PRO announced a 1:00 start. The breeze was light to light medium (7-11) and the shifts were large (50+ degrees).

Pete Price lead around the first mark of the first race and stayed there until Vincent Porter passed him late in the race to win. Vincent was 8th at the first mark and rode a nice puff into second at the next leeward mark. The course was a 2 1/2, as were the two other races, and the leaders finished in 50 minutes.

The breeze was a little stronger in the next race and Vincent team finished first in about 40 minutes. they were battling alone the whole race with Ken Wruk, who finished second. Bill Misenheimer had a great first downwind, going from 15th to 5th. Like the first race one side or the other seemed to come in with a big beneficial shift, so there were opportunities to gain big. Bob Herdrich moved from 12th at the first mark to 3rd for the race. Rick Lemberg had his best race finishing 4th, and he did it the hard way - hanging on to that position for the whole race in tough to read big shifts, while most everyone else was going up and down with each major shift.

The third race lasted about 50 minutes and the breeze seemed to steady out compared to the previous two races - but still had some good shifts and puffs to work with. I believe the Porter team lead the whole way {and if they didn't I am sure someone will let me know tomorrow after they read this report  : ) }

The day ended with the beer and rum punch flowing, some crazy flamingo racing (don't ask), and a great diner at the club. There were more games after diner to entertain all - what a supper effort by everyone to make this an outstanding regatta.

DAY-2

Race 4 saw Pete Price and Casey Call jumped out to a good lead at the first mark, followed by Vincent Porter. The winds were a little more steady on day two and seemed to favor the left side in the west winds we had for the day. Wind strength was about the same 6-12. The race was a short 33 minutes for the 5 leg race. Casey got by Pete on the first downwind and held him off for the remainder of the race. Ken Wruk moved from 7th at the first mark to 4th at the finish while Lance Puccio slid from 3rd at the first mark to 5th at the finish.

Race 5 was was a 7 leg race that was finished in 55 minutes. Vincent Porter got off first with Casey Call second, Dave Irmcher (WA-21) and Ken Wruk following. Ken had the upwinds figured out and moved to first at the next upwind and stayed there to the finish. Andy Allen liked his first leg rounding in 6th, but it is hard for a new comer to hold on in an experienced fleet - but it's fun while you're up there. Dave Irmcher had the same experience and although he only slipped 6 places in the race finishing 9th. Rob Terry had the best come back in the race. Rob was 14th at the first mark and working his way up to 4th at the finish - nice job.

Casey Call had a much better day of racing with a 1, 3 to help him move up in the standings. So did Dick Tillman with a 6, 7. Pete Price and Rob Terry held steady the whole regatta as did Ken Wruk after his first race struggle. There was a plan by the Wawasee E-sailors to take Vincent's team out and party hard, in an attempt to slow him down on day-2. It worked, but it was too little too late and Vincent ended with a 3, 2. Not sure if Bob Herdrich was the person in charge of that plan but if it was it backfired on him. He had a 9, 10 on day-2, slipping in the standing from 3rd after the first day to 6th for the regatta. I believe I heard Rick Turner called over the line in the first race of day-2, and he had a good come back to finish in the middle of the fleet. Lastly Richard Halliday liked the second day conditions much more with much improved finishes.
